It has been a month since the University of Wisconsin-Stout men and women’s cross country teams have competed. The last time that these teams competed was at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls invitational on Sept 6. The Blue Devils Cross Country Runners have been invited to compete at the Kollege Town Sports Invite on Sat, Oct 19 in Winneconne, WI and the City Wells Invite on Fri, Oct 25 in Eau Claire, WI.

The team is excited to get back into the swing of things and to compete again. “It’s always exciting once it’s time to compete again,” Brittany Staab said. “You spend a lot of time putting in all this hard work and energy so it’s nice to finally be able to see where it’s gotten you.” Brian Mathews had a different view on the month-long absence. “When I found out that we were going to have such a big break I was worried it was going to drag on and be full of hard workout and lots of miles,” Mathews said.

The long practices aren’t the only time the team spends together. Mathews said, “we have done movie nights at the women’s team house, camp fires at the men’s teams house, game nights in the AFM basement [and] study nights in the library.” The bonding time for the team has left them feeling optimistic about the rest of the season.

Alongside team building, members are using their time to improve. “I’m currently focusing on doing every little stretch, icing, getting in quality cross training minutes and taking full advantage of any chance I can run to get back into the swing of things, so I can help out my team and try to earn a spot at Nationals.” Staab said.
