Diablo Blue Arrives on Broadway

The new attraction at 631 South Broadway has been serving up food and cocktails for over two months now. Since opening on December 12th, Diablo Blue has maintained a steady crowd of Menomonie city-goers and University of Wisconsin-Stout students.

The building Diablo Blue now calls home has housed other establishments in the past. Most notably, the Rehab Bar, was denied a liquor license and eventually shut down after 45 underage drinking citations were issued on April 12, 2018 by Menomonie Police.

With a new liquor license in place, Diablo Blue is keeping a keen eye out for underage drinkers. Connor Bump, who serves as a regular bartender at Diablo Blue, says that bouncers are “extremely strict” when checking customer IDs.

In light of prior misconceptions, although “Diablo” is “devil” in Spanish, the restaurant is, in fact, not a Mexican restaurant. Instead, Diablo Blue serves as a more traditional American style eatery.

“Yes, a lot of people assume that we are a Mexican restaurant because of the name,” Bump said. “People are taken back when I tell them it is mostly American food.”

Another Diablo Blue employee, Trey Gardner, speculated on their menu. He stated, “I’d say it’s a small menu with a wide variety from an Asian chicken bowl to loaded hot dogs.” Gardner also mentioned that the Asian chicken bowl was his favorite item on the menu. “It’s a healthy dish with a solid portion to fill you up,” he added.

With the help of immense renovations, the new hangout has a new and improved ambiance. According to Bump, “The atmosphere of Diablo Blue is very versatile. During the day we are a very family-oriented restaurant. And once the sun goes down and the dinner rush is over, the music goes up.”

The establishment attracts customers with special daily promotions, such as Bogo Burgers (buy one, get one), Bingo, and as of recent—Bachelor Mondays.

Diablo Blue is open daily from 11:00 AM – 12:00 AM.
