Calling all students looking for a great space to weight-train or workout: The Menomonie Training Center is a perfect place to start. The facility offers a wide variety of sports training and is free to University of Wisconsin-Stout students.

Former NFL Player and Stout alum, Jeff Hazuga, has recently opened a new training center in Menomonie. Hazuga is the proud owner of the Menomonie Training Center and has resided here in Menomonie for the last eight years.

Hazuga played football for one season as a member of the Minnesota Vikings in 2001. He also played overseas in Europe for the Frankfurt Galaxy in 2004, so he knows a thing or two about how to train and motivate. Additionally, Hazuga attended Stout in 2009 to obtain his masters degree.

I asked Hazuga about his intentions for opening the training center. He said he wants “to provide a safe space for students to learn about various sports and have a mentor who helps them to believe in themselves.”

Hazuga had to pick and choose what he wanted to include with the space he had. The facility has an open sports theme to accommodate many activities such as basketball, softball, volleyball, boxing and other activities. The space also provides an area to do sprint workouts and other open field workouts, while only providing one squat and bench rack and no dumbbell racks.

Included in the space is even an area for arts and crafts. Customers can rent out the entire gym for $100 or can set up an appointment by calling Hazuga. The gym’s normal hours are between 4p.m. and 8p.m. According to Hazuga, at any time students are free to come workout as long as they sign a waiver, although a donation is appreciated.

The gym is located a couple miles west of Fleet Farm at E3524 US Highway 12, Menomonie WI. “This facility is here to help kids, especially their confidence in their hopes and dreams and I want to support that as much as possible.” Hazuga said.

Hazuga can be contacted at (612) 600-5200 or by Facebook at Menomonie Training Center.
