Wisconsin Association of Family & Consumer Sciences (WAFCS) 2024 was held on Thursday, February 29 and Friday, March 1, 2024, at the Brown County STEM Innovation Center. The Innovation Center is located at the University of Wisconsin Green Bay Campus.

What is Family & Consumer Sciences? Family & Consumer Sciences (FCS) is a field that covers a variety of concepts including individuals, families, nutrition, and fabric.

This event is to bring retired FCS teachers, current FCS teachers, and future FCS teachers together and learn about their experiences and connect.

On Thursday, there was a choice of options attendees got to choose from. One of the optional sessions that took place on Thursday February 29, 2024, was Round Table Mentoring where future teachers got grouped up with a mentor in each group. This included group discussions while making tie blankets for the Student Unit project. To end the night on Thursday there was an Awards Banquet and we finished off with trivia.

On Friday, there were three Breakout Sessions where attendees got to choose from sessions like “Telling Our Stories” or “AI in the Classroom: Good vs Evil” for the first Breakout Session. For the second Breakout Session some of the options were “5 Instructional Strategies in 50 minutes” or “Careers for Young People Interested in Sewing.” For the third Breakout Session one of the options was “Middle School MAGIC!” Friday ended with the raffle baskets being handed out and a closing. The new WAFCS President concluded the conference with a gavel.
