Peyton Manning Retirement

If you don’t know yet, the Broncos beat the Panthers 24-10 in Super Bowl 50. There is much speculation as to whether or not this is Peyton Manning’s last season at 39 years of age. He was the oldest quarterback to start a Super Bowl, and it would ultimately be a great way to end his career by going out on top. However, after the game, Manning’s comments didn’t sway towards heading towards retirement or another season. He was mainly focused on celebrating the victory with his teammates and said a decision will come in the future, but not at this time. As for the Manning family, they now share a total of four Super Bowl rings with Eli and Peyton each having two apiece.

Cam Newton

There has been much scrutiny surrounding Cam Newton and his entire football career dating back to his college days. As a highly recruited football player out of high school, he first enrolled at Florida University, but was forced to leave after an incident where he stole a laptop out of a dorm room. After he found his footing, he had an opportunity to play football at the University of Auburn, but found more controversy after questions were raised about his eligibility and recruitment to Auburn. Even with skepticism on any level, Newton left his mark on the university, including leading his team to a NJCAA and NCAA National Championships. Other accomplishments include winning the Heisman Trophy, being drafted first overall in the NFL draft, winning the NFL MVP and leading his team to the Super Bowl. Although Newton couldn’t lead his team to a Super Bowl victory, his triumphs and accomplishments should speak for themselves, it is just a matter of time before the media and all the critics realize it.

Defensive Showdown

All the critics and analysts predicted the game would come down to quarterback play and each team’s defense. Defense proved to be each team’s strong point as both defenses combined for six turnovers with the Broncos forcing four and the Panthers forcing two. Peyton Manning and Denver’s offense only put up 194 yards of total offense, the fewest by a Super Bowl winning team. Von Miller and the Broncos’ talented defense halted Cam Newton and the Panthers’ potent offensive unit. Von Miller won the Super Bowl MVP with his impressive performance that included six tackles and two and a half sacks.
