On April 25th at 6:00 p.m., the SLA (Student Leadership Assistants) hosted Stoutnic 2025, an annual end-of-school-year picnic meant to give students a chance to unwind before finals kicked in. While the event is typically held outdoors, this year’s Stoutnic unfortunately had to be relocated inside Price Commons due to rainy weather.
Despite the sudden change of location, the event still managed to draw a crowd of around 72 students—some who planned to come to the event, and others who were simply drawn in by the lively, festival-like activity. One student commented, “Shame it has to be indoors as it won’t have the same magic as it would outside.” Though I’m sure many other students would agree the event still was able to maintain a fun and lively atmosphere.
Stoutnic attendees were able to enjoy a range of fun attractions organized by the Student Leadership Assistants. These attractions included a juggler and balloon artist, a face painter, and a caricature artist. Tables were also set up with board games, and one room was hosting a game of Jackbox. Of course, it can’t be called a picnic without food, and Stoutnic did not disappoint. Stoutnic provided free corn dogs, popcorn, and ice cream, which were welcome treats despite having to be eaten indoors.
While the weather may have forced the event and attendees inside, the lively spirit remained. Overall, I’d say the picnic served a laid-back, much needed break before the dreadful finals. Events like Stoutnic clearly highlight the effort of student organizations like the SLA in keeping campus life memorable, vibrant, and calming. That being said, I’m sure many others hope that the next Stoutnic remains an outdoor picnic, but that’s up to the clouds to decide.
