After over a decade, Delta Zeta has brought back the annual Stout Man competition! Aiming to raise awareness surrounding the issue of drunk driving, all profits from the Stout Man competition will be given to Mothers Against Drunk Driving. The Stout Man competition will consist of various events for the contestants to compete in to win the favor of a panel of three judges. Scot Vaver (Delta Zeta’s advisor) and Lisa Penderson (Sgt. Of Menomonie Police Department) have been reported to be the judges for the Stout Man competition; however, the third judge remains a mystery.
A tabling event took place on March 6, 2025, to seek out possible contestants for this competition. This event saw great success, ending with over ten people signing up to compete. An additional promotional event will take place at the end of the month—March 31, 2025—to advocate for sober driving. Keychains will be sold to those who pledge to drive sober from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Memorial Student Center.
As for the competition itself, it will consist of a speech from the Sargent of Menomonie’s Police Department, Lisa Penderson, about alcohol awareness. Contestants will dawn formal attire as they provide the audience with a brief introduction to themselves. Judges will interview them individually in a pageant-like fashion. After this, the contestants will show off their various talents, then wrap up the competition with a drunk goggle model walk across the stage. Once decided, the winner of the Stout Man competition will win free Toppers Pizza for a whole year!
This event will take place on April 4th, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. We will have a reporter at the event to later document the ongoings and outcomes of the competition, along with one of Stoutonia’s very own competing—Blake Herrick! Make sure to show up to support Delta Zeta and Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
