The UW-Stout lacrosse team remained unbeaten in heart-stopping fashion, as Mai Nou Vang delivered a game-winning goal with just seven seconds left to lift the Blue Devils to a thrilling 9-8 victory over Concordia University Wisconsin on Saturday at Nelson Field.
With the game tied 8-8 in the final moments, goalkeeper Emilia Bullock made a clutch free-position save and quickly launched a deep pass downfield. The ball bounced through traffic before Vang corralled it, broke free from defenders, and buried the decisive goal past the Falcons’ goalkeeper to lead the Blue Devils to their 4th consecutive win to start the season, the longest such streak in program history.
Vang finished with a team-high three goals and an assist, continuing her knack for late-game heroics after scoring the game-winner in Stout’s previous home matchup against Beloit College. Megan Palmer and Abigail Todey also notched hat tricks for the Blue Devils, while Brinley Tonn contributed an assist.
Defensively, Bullock was a game-changer in net, recording 17 saves, including multiple crucial stops at point-blank range, to keep Stout within striking distance. Despite trailing 6-5 at halftime, the Blue Devils locked in defensively and outscored Concordia Wisconsin 4-2 in the second half to complete the comeback victory.
Up Next: UW-Stout (4-0) will return to Nelson Field on Wednesday, March 26, to host Mount Mercy University (Iowa) at 5 p.m. as they look to extend their unbeaten streak and continue their strong start to the season.
