Whether you’re starting your first year at the University of Wisconsin Stout or are a returning student, you’re bound to make a ton of new friends, or simply want to learn more about the town you’ll be spending the next few years in! There are many different things to do around campus, but what is there to do beyond campus? There are plenty of different activities from hiking trails to the historic downtown streets.
One of my personal favorites is Devil’s Punchbowl. Not only is it a unique landmark near Menomonie, but it’s a very quiet and welcoming spot! During the fall when the leaves change colors, it’s the perfect spot for fall photos and even small group outings!
Another spot that I like to frequent is the Red Cedar Trail, located just below Campus that follows along the Red Cedar River. The trail goes on for a while, but you can choose how far you want to go and how much you want to see! There is an option to ride your bike on the trail, but please note that you’ll need a permit to do so.
Don’t feel like trekking though nature? Take a stroll through Downtown Menomonie! Feel free to stop by and talk with the owners of the businesses; they’re all super friendly and willing to help you out with whatever you may need. There are plenty of great options, and you can make many great memories here! You could also go to a restaurant! Whether it’s in Downtown Menomonie or closer inward, going out to eat with your friends is always a good time! Or even go out for a coffee; we have plenty of great options around here.
There are many great things to do here in Menomonie, and whether you do them alone or with a friend is completely up to you. But regardless, take the time to visit at least one of these places during your year at UW-Stout. There is a lot more to do than what I mentioned in this article, so definitely take the time to go explore! Take time to see the different sites and make the most out of your time at UW-Stout this fall!
