The Menomonie Police Department (MPD) has released new information about the incident.

 

At approximately 5:06 p.m. the MPD received a call on a domestic incident, which occurred at 2724 Fryklund Dr.

 

Residents of Menomonie residing in the Fryklund Drive area were requested to remain indoors due to an ongoing police situation today.  

 

A perimeter was established by the MPD. Eau Claire Regional SWAT was requested for assistance. Residents living in the immediate area of the incident were evacuated.

 

A male subject was reportedly making threats to harm the victim. The police received information of the subject moving from the lower level of the apartment complex up to the an apartment on the second level. The subject mentioned carrying a gun.

The victim was safely removed from the situation. The subject was said to have barricaded himself inside the apartment, as police reported “attempting dialog with the male subject.”

 

As of 10:40 p.m., nearly six hours after the call to MPD was made, a male subject was apprehended and taken into custody.

 

Update:

The name of the suspect taken into custody late last night, Aug. 2, has been released by the Menomonie Police Department.

 

Suspect Phillip Edward Chism will be facing four possible charges: disorderly conduct, second degree sexual assault, failure to comply with officers and bail jumping.

 

The Eau Claire SWAT was reported to have “deployed gas into the apartment to get Chism to come outside.” Eau Claire SWAT apprehended the suspect after the gas took effect and brought Chism into handcuffs. He was taken to Red Cedar Mayo Hospital in Menomonie to review his mental health.

 

Chism’s appearance before the Dunn County Circuit Court was held today, Aug. 3, at 1:15 p.m.

 

MPD emphasized that “this was not a hostage situation. The victim was separated from Chism prior to his attempt at evading police custody.”
