With winter athletics wrapping up, the spring season is on the horizon. Sports such as softball, baseball, lacrosse, tennis, golf, flag football, and track and field are preparing for a successful season.
Softball has a 12-8 record so far, with most of its games played in Florida during spring break. They haven’t entered any conference games and won’t until their matchup at Stevens Point on April 10th, weather dependent. Pitcher Sarah Wilkens received the WIAC Kwik Trip Player of the Week for the week of March 8-15, as well as teammate and outfielder Stephanie Kuhn.
Baseball also traveled to Florida to play some games in better weather. Their record currently stands at 4-4, including a sweep in their last day of games on March 19th. Looking ahead, they have a conference doubleheader March 28-29 at Platteville
Women’s Lacrosse is well into their season with a 4-3 record. This includes a home match versus Eau Claire, kicking off their conference play. Their next two games are at home, with a game versus North Central College on March 25th, followed by another conference match-up playing UW-La Crosse on March 28th. Senior Mai Nou Vang is a key part of the team’s success, being WIAC Kwik Trip Women’s Lacrosse Attacker of the Week for the week of March 8-15. She was also the player of the week from February 2-8.
Women’s Tennis is also one of the teams that took their team to some warmer weather in Florida. They went 2-2 in the matches they competed in and play next on March 28th against Wartburg College.
Golf features both the men’s and women’s team continuing their momentum into the spring season. The women’s team travels to Farmington, Missouri, to play in Wash U’s spring invite. This comes after a momentous fall season, adding a conference title to their resume and adding the National Championship tournament this May to their schedule. The men’s team will pick their season back up at Illinois Wesleyan’s Invitational April 3-4. They follow that up with tournaments in late April, including the WIAC Triangular April 29-30 and Edgewood’s Quadrangler, May 1st.
Women’s Flag Football is back for its second season after winning the inaugural Midwest College Women’s Flag Football League Championship. They’ll begin their season on April 11th at the Saint Benedict Jamboree, where the team will play three games.
Track and Field concluded its indoor season with a national championship title from pole vaulter Leah Zastrow and sent four other athletes to nationals. They return to continue their outdoor season at UW-La Crosse on April 3rd. Their WIAC Championship will return to that same location May 1-2.
