If you’re looking for a new hobby to start this spring, then you’re in luck, because Billiards Club has officially become an organization here on campus. After speaking with the founder and president of Billiards Club Bunyod Fayzullayev, I have all the information for anyone looking to join!
First, what is billiards? It’s a historically British game played on a billiards table with around 1-15 balls and a cue, or the wooden shaft used to hit the balls. The game can seem complicated with many different ways to play, and each comes with their own set of rules. However, this doesn’t mean an inexperienced player cannot join the club. On the contrary, club president Bunyod Fayzullayev assures that “Anyone is welcome […] the goal of the pool club is just getting to know each other and sharing skills.”
The reason Bunyod created the club is because he noticed many students on campus playing billards, but it was always separate groups of friends. He wanted to turn the game more into a community, although pool can be played with other people or solitary. The president talks about how he wants the club to bring people together so the billiards players can connect and hopefully share their skills of the game.
Unfortunately, as we are almost at the end of the semester, the club doesn’t have any set events, but there is lots of hope for the 2026 fall semester. Currently there are about 15 members including the officers, so Billiards Club has been really optimistic and encouraging when it comes to adding new players. One pending idea the club has is a Billiards Tournament, where players would compete, the winner earning a prize at the end. There would need to be at least 20-25 players for the tournament, so currently the club officers are waiting to see the turnout for their first meeting.
One way they hope to grow the club is by offering informational sessions, where a new player can learn the basic rules, as well as some tips for the game. The club president states, “you can always come to me. I’d be happy to teach them.”
The best way to plan one of these sessions would be to reach out to the club, either in person, or by contacting the president with his email ([email protected]).
As for regular meetings, the club will be in the MSC on Wednesday 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. It should be noted that this time and date could be subject to change depending on the availability of members.
